Made in the Shade excitedly welcomes Dwight and Elise Amemiya as not only the newest member in our family of owners, but also the first to bring the Made in the Shade Brand to the Hawaiian Islands!

Dwight and Elise are both accomplished professionals, experienced entrepreneurs, and possess a lifelong connection to the local Oahu community. Their business expertise, combined with an intimate familiarity of their market in Oahu,  makes for a perfect roadmap to success. We will thoroughly enjoy assisting and watching them build Made in the Shade Oahu.

During his career Dwight has held a wide range of positions while overseeing energy assets across the country. Elise practices law and was also a stay-at-home mom. She has always been very active in their son’s activities which includes roles as a PTA board member, Cub Scout leader, YMCA and I-9 coach and Destination Imagination manager. What hobbies/interests do you enjoy doing in your free time?

We enjoy being active as a family. We love going to the gym, running along the beach  and biking around town. I enjoy golfing, while Elise has recently taken up Muay Thai. We also enjoy going to the symphony, attending local sporting events, and being involved in our son’s various activities.

Tell us about your family and their interests.

We were both born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii. While we have strong roots in the islands, college and career provided the opportunity to reside in a wide variety of destinations. Accordingly, we were able to experience living in places like New York, California, Wisconsin, and Texas. Each of these areas were unique and wonderful, but it is nice to be back home and resettled in Oahu.

Our son, Nathan, is a sophomore in high school. He enjoys music, marching band, and JROTC and is a member of the Hawaii Youth Symphony. He is interested in history and politics and is thinking about a career in the military or law.

We enjoy traveling and experiencing new things. Our interest in sports has taken us to games at places like the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl. We also had the opportunity to attend events at iconic venues such as Lambeau Field and Yankee Stadium. Most recently we have experienced and greatly enjoyed National Parks like Zion, Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, and Yosemite. We also love a good parade! Our favorites include Mardi Gras in New Orleans and Thanksgiving Day in New York City.

What appealed to you about the Made in the Shade opportunity?

I got an immediate sense that Made in the Shade is family-oriented, built on relationships and trust. They are structured to provide excellent training, offer a wide range of resources, and have an open and supportive franchisee network where we can learn from the experiences of many. They also have strong vendor relationships and a simple and flexible business model, which makes it easier for franchisees to succeed.
