Made in the Shade is thrilled to welcome Holly Yourkovich as a new owner in St. Augustine Florida. Holly and her husband John hail from the state of Wisconsin and moved to Florida eight years ago due to the strong lure of sunshine, sand, and the historic beauty of St. Augustine.

Professional background

Holly brings her skills as a career educator to her new Made in the Shade business. Over the past 30 years, she has taught a variety of curriculum ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. After teaching for 22 years in Wisconsin, she continued teaching in her new state of Florida for the past eight years. During the last 6 years she employed her talent and creativity as an art teacher.

What hobbies/interests do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am in awe of the Florida sunshine! I do not take for granted how lucky I am to enjoy it all year round! In my free time, I enjoy both long walks on the beach as well as walks through all the adorable beach towns and cities in Florida, especially those in Northeastern Florida, St. John’s County. As a resident of St. Augustine, I enjoy eating out at the fantastic restaurants and shopping in the one-of-a-kind shops, while taking in all of the architecture and history it has to offer. Being a retired art teacher, I enjoy the art galleries and events here. In my free time, I also enjoy traveling, exploring art using different mediums, reading, and practicing yoga.

Tell us about your family and their interests

This year is going to be a year of many changes. My husband John and I have two beautiful children, Harper and Adam. Our son Adam graduated from college this year with a degree in business and is already off to his next chapter, having secured a job in Boston. My daughter, Harper, is about to begin her next chapter in college. John and I will be empty nesters all at once! Having just celebrated our 25th anniversary, we hope to have some time do more traveling and other “bucket list” things.

What appealed to you about the Made in the Shade opportunity?

I began my college career working toward a degree in Interior Design before switching to education.  I have always loved home interiors and design. Though the years, I have been the go-to person for friends and family when design decisions need to be made and have loved helping others decorate and transform their homes.  I have been told over and over through the years, that I should be making a living in interior design and now it is finally time to pursue it. I realized I needed a proven foundation in which to start, so that I could spend my time on what I love doing, educating and helping clients chose window treatments that complement their needs and decor wishes. Made In the Shade has a tried and proven model and the choice was clear early in the exploring process.

What are your immediate business goals? (Year 1)

My immediate goal is to establish myself in the St. Johns County area as a well-known, reliable window treatment business.

What are your long-term business goals?

My long-term goal is to have my business be dominated by referrals and repeat business. In my opinion, that would demonstrate that I am successful and benefiting others the way that I am hoping to.
