Professional background
In addition to earning a degree in Telecommunications Management, Valerie brings a sense of adventure, an entrepreneurial spirt and a wealth of experience to her new Made in the Shade business. She owned, and eventually sold, a franchise in the plumbing industry which provided valuable experience in operating her own business. She also honed her in-home sales skills while managing the Sales Department of a window fashions retailer in Australia for nine-years.
What hobbies/interests do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy cooking and reading in my spare time. I love getting creative in the kitchen, trying new recipes that I find online or have tried in a fine dining restaurant. I also love reading books that offer wisdom, inspiration or enrichment for my life.
Tell us about your family and their interests.
I was born and raised in Chicago where my entire family are huge Chicago Bears fans. It wasn’t just a passion on Sundays as my father was also the Manager of the Engineering Team at Soldier Field where the Bears play.
I also come from a very spiritual background. My entire family is very active in the church and involved in anything from being regular members of the choir to Sunday school teaching. It is definitely a big part of our lives.
What appealed to you about the Made in the Shade opportunity?
My prior experience from owning my own business, combined with a history of success in in-home sales seemed to make Made in the Shade a perfect fit to fulfill my vision of building the business of my dreams.
