What hobbies/interests do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I love to be as active as I can. Like so many others, Pickleball has become a passion. I play recreationally as often as I can and regularly compete in tournaments. I also enjoy biking and taking long walks with my son on the Seminole Trail. My favorite indoor activity is cooking for my friends and my family.
Tell us about your family and their interests
I have a very multicultural background. My Mother is French, my Father is from Guyana of Indian descent and I was born and raised in Jamaica. I traveled most of the world with my parents who loved visiting new places and being exposed to new cultures and foods. I moved to the United States seven years ago as a single Mom with my wonderful 11-year-old Xander, who is on the autism spectrum.
After being a consumer looking for window treatments for my own home, I found the process to be extraordinarily interesting and appealing. I quicky realized that there is a high demand for the window treatments and that there’s a great margin opportunity for the business. I have always loved meeting and working with people and this industry would allow me to exercise my creative side. My decision to move forward with Made in the Shade was the family company culture, the support, the reasonable franchise cost and lack of royalties.
What are your immediate business goals? (Year 1)
My goal in year one is to learn as much as I can about window coverings and installation from the vendors and from other Made in the Shade owners. I am also committed to generating leads
through my marketing campaigns and networking efforts and to meet or exceed the sales goals I have established. I also intend to bring on another sale representative within the first 12-
What are your long-term business goals?
To continually build my team, acquire additional territories, and work toward referrals – outpacing marketing driven leads by providing exemplary customer service.
