We are excited to announce that Brendan and Brenda Killian are the proud new owners of Made in the Shade of South Denver Metro. The former owner, Andy Morstatter, quickly grew his franchise to become one of the most successful of all Made in the Shade territories and then Andy was determined to find a successor who had the skill, experience, and dedication to continue to bring the business to even greater heights. The Killian’s are the perfect fit to take on that challenge!
Professional background
Brendan has an impressive history as a business owner and entrepreneur. From 2008 to 2018, he built and operated seven Jimmy John’s franchises. He recently sold five of the seven locations and plans to sell another to allow him the time to focus his energies on the Made in the Shade business. Born and raised in Colorado, Brenda is hair stylist and colorist and is no stranger to being an entrepreneur, having owned and operating her own salon.
What hobbies/interests do you enjoy doing in your free time?
We enjoy much of what the great State of Colorado has to offer such as downhill skiing, snowboarding, hiking, fishing and hunting. We are also avid sports fans and attend the local team events regularly. Much of our free time is spent working our small farm that includes a rooster, fourteen chickens, three ducks, one rabbit , a wild Canadian Goose that we rescued at one-day old, one cat, and three dogs.
Tell us about your family and their interests
We have been married for 13 years and have a 24-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, and a son Henry who is 11 years old. Brooklyn loves music, volleyball and traveling and is in the process of earning her college degree. Henry plays competitive travel baseball and football and is working on earning his second-degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do.
What appealed to you about the Made in the Shade opportunity?
The territory we purchased is not only located right where we live, but also is among the fastest growing areas in the country. As a current franchise owner in a different industry, I really appreciate the unique business model that Cathy has created and believe this model sets owners up for success. Also, having an opportunity to work with Brenda and have the whole family involved in the business was another great incentive.
